Saw 1 has a different version of John than the sequels. This is due to #1 different writers for Saw 1&2, and #2 Saw 2 had a rushed production to make a Saw sequel in under a year. Tapp says in Saw 1 that Jigsaw is a sicko who likes having a front row seat for his sick games. That was John's motivation for wanting to potentially see Adam killed.
