This is a harmless - but sometimes defensive - kind of Whip snake, Hierophis sp. I believe this is either Balkan Whipsnake, Hierophis gemonensis, or Green Whipsnake Hierophis viridiflavus . I'm leaning towards the former, but someone else here might be able to point out a decisive difference! They have a little mushroom!

This species represents one of only two living genera in the family. This turtle was previously included in the genus Macroclemys , however, Webb (1995) demonstrated that the generic name Macrochelys has priority over Macroclemys .
