Castle Bravo was actually 3x times larger yield than expected due to assuming the lithium-7 would be inert. Instead, it increased the power by creating extra tritium and neutrons. Wikipedia has a solid write up on this test.

Godzilla vanished following the detonation, and the United States covered up all evidence of his existence.
Fair point, things like shockwave propagation and fallout dispersion couldn't be tested on the moon. But things like explosive yield, the pretty significant discovery that castle bravo was accidentally 2.5 times stronger than they planned, that sort of testing could be done without an atmosphere.
