It is also the birthplace of Antonis, the father of John Nicolopoulos, late ex-husband of Mary LaViolette, and of Antonis’ first cousin Constantine Palamidis, grandfather of Dena Palamedes.

The rebellion originated in the activities of the Philikí Etaireía (“Friendly Brotherhood”), a patriotic conspiracy founded in Odessa (now in Ukraine) in 1814.
