Hurley can succeed for sure. Mike Malone is a great example of how an intense coach like Hurley can thrive in the NBA. The bigger question in my mind is whether the lakers ownership and fanbase have the patience to allow him to build a team culture that encourages players to buy into an intensity driven coaching approach.
