Having just read Pauline Kael's problematic but thoughtful essay on the Shining, it strikes me that a philosopher should do a proper analysis of Kubrick's movies, especially the Shining. It has many Nietzschean themes, for instance, such as gazing into the abyss and the Eternal Return of the Same.
