Hace 4 días · Born Frederick Bailey in 1818 to a white father and an enslaved mother, he grew up on a plantation in Talbot County, Maryland. Brought up by his grandmother, he was owned by a man named Thomas Auld, who frequently sent him out for work, and eventually he was leased to Thomas’s brother, Hugh, who also owned a plantation in Maryland.
