While I was reading up on him, I came across this piece with a bit of background on his pioneering chip design work—not on the Intel 4004 (which is he known for), but on the Zilog Z80 chip.

In 1980, he returned to Japan as a director of the Intel Japan Design Center. In 2000, he became professor at Aizu University in Japan, and retired in 2004.
