After breaking into the mainstream with their second album, Nevermind (1991), Nirvana hired Steve Albini to record In Utero, seeking a more complex, abrasive sound that was reminiscent of their work prior to Nevermind.

And someone asked him why he had that tattoo on his arm and he said it was to remind him to be childlike, because a lot of the music on K Records was very naive and not very technically accomplished.
