Suicide is a major public health concern (Knox, 2014; Martínez-Alés et al., 2022) and the 12th leading cause of mortality among people within the United States (Garnett et al., 2022).In the US suicide rates increased 35% between 2000 and 2018 (Hedegaard et al., 2018), with the largest increase occurring among men aged 45–64 (Martínez-Alés et al., 2022).
