6 de ene. de 2016 · He made up his own thing, and it was really creative and interesting. Lloyd Cole [who also played on Sweet’s ’90s albums] spent a lot time with Bob trying to figure out what he was doing.
In July 2017, Sweet told WXRT radio in Chicago that a friend and musician on the album, Lloyd Cole, convinced him that it was a good song worthy of the album. Cole also helped inspire the song's title. He explained, "Matthew kept talking about 'good friend.'
Durante el año 1991, Sweet actuó como guitarrista de Lloyd Cole en sus giras por Estados Unidos, al tiempo que intentaba encontrar una discográfica que publicase su tercer LP. Before the release of the album, Cole plus Fred Maher, Matthew Sweet, Nicky Holland and Sprague Hollander performed as a live covers band under the monikers 'The Bob Dylan Band' and 'Billy Blake and The Eternals'.
