He played for multiple teams but he's primarily associated with the Seattle Mariners, a team he spent 14 seasons with as a player. Ichiro was one of the best players of the 2000s decade and one of the best contact hitters in baseball history.
It was during the 1994 season that he began to use his given name, "Ichiro," instead of his family name, "Suzuki," on the back of his uniform. Suzuki is the second-most-common family name in Japan, and his manager introduced the idea as a publicity move to help create a new image for what had been a relatively weak team, as well as a way to distinguish their rising star.

21 de mar. de 2019 · Think about it. Kikuchi grew up idolizing Ichiro. I think I read that him signing with the Mariners was partially due to Ichiro. And now the first game of his major league career is the last game of his childhood idol’s and they’re playing in their home country. That’s just an incredible experience.
21 de dic. de 2018 · Ichiro is one of the exceptions; while he didn't hit a lot of home runs or have a high slugging percentage in general, he was fantastic at what he was asked to do. And that was to get on base from the top of the order, let the guys behind you drive you in. In short, I like DRC+ but it is broken at the margins. Ichiro had a 242 hit season in 2001.
