He is a legendary film composer, has four academy award nominations, a grammy, his music is beyond interesting and beautiful and... he didn't formally study music? I've been looking into this, and it seems Mr. Elfman never actually formally studied music. Everywhere I look, I see him saying things to the effect of "I taught myself."
