The song is supposedly a homage to Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Sweet Home Alabama. It is even mentioned in the song. I feel this is one of Zevon’s strangest songs lyrically but somehow it works. “Jeannie Needs A Shooter” is your typical Zevon song. Nice crispy guitar tones, great vocals and a catchy chorus.
