I'm an R&B/soul fan and I always knew of the song but through Donny and was shocked to find out it was a cover of John Lennon song ( I always heard of the Beatles but I never really heard them if that makes sense they never got played around me). My girl put me on to that fact when I was listening to song around her and she said a Beatle wrote it.
