The Colosseum in Rome is a Roman amphitheater built in the 1st century AD and is one of the most famous and visited monuments in the world. Known as the Flavian Amphitheater, it has been included among the seven wonders of the world for its majesty and historical importance.
Parco Archeologico del Colosseo includes the extraordinary ancient complexes forming part of the central archaeological area, namely Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine. The Anfiteatro Flavio is the most famous, large and important amphitheatre in the world, better known as the Colosseum, because of a colossal statue that stood nearby.
The Colosseum was conceived of and constructed during the reign of the Flavian Dynasty. This Dynasty consisted of the Emperor Vespasian and his two sons, Titus and Domitian, who ruled after him respectively. Originally named the Flavian Amphitheater, after this Dynasty, the nickname of Colosseo would come later.
