He took a break from the band in 2004 and was replaced by Joey Vera, but he returned one year later. During his time away from Anthrax, he briefly performed with Helmet.

He is Anthrax's rhythm guitarist and primary lyricist. Scott also co-founded S.O.D. and is a member of The Damned Things, which features members of Anthrax and Fall Out Boy.
