Hace 2 días · Sidney Sussex College stands on a plot of ground of about 5½ acres which at one time belonged to the Franciscan friars. Here the friars had settled about the middle of the 13th century and had built their church, cloisters, and friary.
The College was founded in July 1594 under the terms of the will of Frances Sidney, Countess of Sussex, who died in 1589, the Letters Patent of foundation being obtained by her executors who, with difficulty, acquired the present site in September 1595.
