While the power of the Soviet State was being eroded from within by its own inner corruption and decadence, the fruits of a living and healthy subculture were flourishing. The same is happening today in the decadent west.
There was something good there, for sure- it really tickled me. I'd like to get into Dostoevsky, and I read many opinions that Notes from the Underground is a great starting place.
