De band staat bekend om hun energieke live-optredens en hun mix van blues, rock, en R&B-muziekstijlen. De band werd opgericht door zanger en mondharmonicaspeler Kim Wilson en gitarist Jimmie Vaughan, de oudere broer van blueslegende Stevie Ray Vaughan.
