Hace 2 días · Opened on May 24, 1883, the Brooklyn Bridge was the first fixed crossing of the East River. It was also the longest suspension bridge in the world at the time of its opening, with a main span of 1,595.5 feet (486.3 m) and a deck 127 ft (38.7 m) above mean high water.

Its main span was the longest in the world until the completion of the Humber Bridge in 1981. The spelling of its name was corrected in 2018.

Hace 5 días · I forgot which of the northbound lanes I was in, as I was excited to be one of the first people — if not the first person — to shoot photographs of the Brooklyn Bridge in the early morning hours of Tuesday, May 24, 1983. I stayed on the empty highway and photographed the bridge through the night until after dawn.
