Hace 4 días · Dire Straits were formed in London in 1977 by brothers Mark and David Knopfler, who were joined by their friends, John Illsley and Pick Withers. A local DJ began playing their demo on his radio show, which led to record deals with Vertigo in the UK and Warner Brothers in the U.S., and an invitation to open for Talking Heads on their 1978 tour.

Although Mark wrote most of the songs, David did contribute songs including "Sacred Loving". The band recorded a demo tape which led to their first album, "Dire Straits" in 1978.

"Dire Straits" (1978) was an instant hit and spawned a successful single in "Sultans Of Swing" (1978). Their second album, "Communiqué" (1979) was an even bigger hit but sibling tensions came to head during the recording of their third album and David left the band in 1980.
