It's true that tianeptine has an extremely short half life, but not the complete picture. It actually is shorter than 3 hours, but it has an mc5 metabolite that is roughly equipotent to the parent compound and that has an ~8 hr half life. This is important to length of withdrawal and time to induce subs.
