This is a very interesting topic to me as I am a fan of both genres. And to clarify, by pop I mean more electronic influences, maybe some rnb and hiphop influences too. I do know of rock bands who shifted to pop, but ended up alienating their fan base and getting a lot of hate as a result, Thirty Seconds To Mars is an example.
