Nissan Skyline R32 (1989): la base del monstruo japonés. La octava generación del Nissan Skyline (R32) no dejaba de ser «un coche más». Se catalogaba en Japón como Compacto (aunque sus dimensiones y formas eran las de una berlina) y se ofrecería desde 1989 solo en carrocerías coupé o 4 puertas con motor delantero longitudinal y tracción trasera o total.
El Skyline R33 (Spec 2) siguió los conceptos introducidos en la generación del R32. Los airbag se convirtieron en básicos en 1996. Como resultado, los modelos previos a 1996 no se solían exportar, sin embargo en los Estados Unidos se permitía su importación ya que las normas federales de seguridad y emisiones no requerían los criterios establecidos al superar los 25 años de antigüedad.
