The more I thought about it, even as a young child, the more I realized that God didn't create us in His own image. We created God in our own image. To see the face of God is to to be overwhelmed, consumed, and destroyed by His nature or His being, because it’s simply too much for a human to comprehend. Metaphorically, seeing the face of God could mean seeing/experiencing/learning something that fundamentally changes you, potentially destroys the version of you that existed.
