Miller went on to become one of comics’ true luminaries, though it’s not entirely true to say that The Dark Knight Returns launched his career.
The issue's story title, The Dark Knight Returns, has often been used as the comic series' title in subsequent reprints. The series has often been referred to as this title. The story notably features the importance of Martha Wayne 's pearl necklace , with prolonged imagery of it being damged in slow-motion with the pearls cattering about the bodies of the Waynes.
