E.B. White, the author of twenty books of prose and poetry, was awarded the 1970 Laura Ingalls Wilder Medal for his children's books, Stuart Little and Charlotte's Web. This award is now given every three years "to an author or illustrator whose books, published in the United States, have, over a period of years, make a substantial and lasting contribution to literature for children."

E.B. White and Charlotte’s Web . The author of Charlotte’s Web, E.B. White, was born in Mount Vernon, New York in 1899 and worked as an editor at The New Yorker magazine for over 40 years. White wrote written several well-known children’s books, including Stuart Little and The Trumpet of the Swan.His most famous work is the beloved classic Charlotte’s Web.
E. B. White, the author of such beloved classics as Charlotte's Web, Stuart Little, and The Trumpet of the Swan, was born in Mount Vernon, New York.He graduated from Cornell University in 1921 and, five or six years later, joined the staff of The New Yorker magazine, then in its infancy. He died on October 1, 1985, and was survived by his son and three grandchildren.
