I give The Dancing Years five golden bright stars because the music it contains moves and grooves my soul. This album is a work of Shriekback's own special brand of musical genius.
That appeared to be the end of Shriekback, who dropped out of sight in the late '80s and early '90s. Their only release during that period was the 1990 compilation The Dancing Years. But Allen, Andrews, and Barker reunited in 1992 to record the excellent Sacred City, which essentially picked up where Big Night Music left off.
Similar (original) release Shriekback - The Dancing Years is made by PDO. Tracks 1, 2, 8 and 9 are new 1990 re-recordings. Tracks 4 & 5 are previously published 12" mixes and 10 & 11 are the regular album versions. Tracks 7, 13 and 14 were recorded live in 1987 at at Park West, Chicago.
