The biology departments at UC Santa Cruz offer a broad spectrum of courses that reflect the exciting new developments and directions in the field of biology. Outstanding faculty, each with a vigorous, internationally recognized research program, teach courses in their specialties as well as core courses for the major.

UC Santa Cruz began in 1965 as an unconventional place that was unlike other educational institutions, a place where innovation—no matter how messy—was part of the campus’s DNA. In the words of then-UC President Clark Kerr, it was “the most significant educational experiment in the history of the University of California.”
UC Santa Cruz does not use standardized exam scores (ACT/SAT) in our comprehensive review and selection process. Like all UC campuses, we consider a broad range of factors when reviewing a student's application, from academics to extracurricular achievement and response to life challenges.
