5 de feb. de 2017 · Lorenzo Ruiz was born some 80 years later, around 1600, in Binondo, Manila. His dad was Chinese and his mom was Filipino. Both were devout Catholics and did their best to instill the faith in Lorenzo.
6 de feb. de 2024 · Sts. Lorenzo Ruiz and Companions An ordinary man. Born in Manila in 1594, the half-Chinese, half-Filipino Lorenzo Ruiz grew up an ordinary Catholic. He was educated by Dominicans, served as an altar boy, and became a calligrapher, transcribing documents for a living. He participated in parish life in all the normal ways.
16 de sept. de 2019 · Thus sealed their faith. Ruiz and his companions were tortured: physically and psychologically. They were forced to ingest inhuman amounts of water. They were stabbed, pressed, soaked, and repeatedly crushed. Their captors emphasized that the torture would stop if they renounced their faith. None of them did do so.
The Church has beatified and canonized many of the martyrs, including Saints Lawrence Ruiz and Companions in 1987. Lorenzo (Lawrence) Ruiz was born to a Chinese father and a Filipino mother in Binondo, Manila. The Spanish governor had established Binondo only six years before Lawrence’s birth for Chinese settlers who had converted to Catholicism.
