Stanford Logos. The Stanford logo system includes wordmarks, block “S” with tree, university seal, the combinations of these elements, and department branding. Each logo type can be used in different ways and for different purposes. Read on for an understanding of how to use our logos.
The block S with tree is one of the most recognized logos of Stanford University. The tree is based on the rendition of El Palo Alto, the tree seen on the Stanford seal. The symbol was updated in 2014.
Grey background. Use notes: To use Stanford’s name or logos on any item or to use differnt background colors other than the four listed to the left , you must contact the Stanford Trademarks and Licensing department prior to production for approval: Trademarks@Stanford.edu.

University Seal. The seal may be used for Stanford activities and is our most formal emblem. The Stanford seal lends authority and authenticity to any communication where it appears. The Seal has a formal and official quality and is often associated with institutional and academic use.
