Introduction James Montgomery Flagg (June 18, 1877 – May 27, 1960) was an American artist, comics artist, and illustrator. He worked in media ranging from fine art painting to cartooning, but is best remembered for his political posters, particularly his 1917 poster of Uncle Sam created for United States Army recruitment during World War I.
Famous for one of the world's most recognizable images, the I Want YOU for the U.S. Army poster created during World War I, James Montgomery Flagg (1877-1960) was also renowned for his elegant pen and ink illustrations crated for the periodicals of the day.
