Geschichte. Das Duo Ian and Sylvia wurde 1961 (nach anderen Quellen 1959) vom späteren Ehepaar Ian und Sylvia Tyson in Toronto gegründet. 1962 wurde Albert Grossman in New York City auf sie aufmerksam, der zu dieser Zeit auch Bob Dylan managte. Durch ihn erlangten sie einen Vertrag beim Label Vanguard Records, bei dem sie Ende des Jahres ihr erstes Album aufnahmen und veröffentlichten.

Ian & Sylvia Inducted in 1992. They only recorded together for a decade, but the music of Ian & Sylvia made an immense impact on the Canadian folk, rock and country scenes. Born in Chatham, Ontario, in 1940, Sylvia Fricker left her hometown in 1959 to pursue a music career in Toronto after graduating high school.

About Ian & Sylvia. Canadian folk duo Ian and Sylvia were stars of the 1960s folk scene best known for their songs "You Were On My Mind," later a pop hit for the folk-rock group We Five, and "Four Strong Winds." Ian Tyson and Sylvia Fricker met on the Toronto coffeehouse scene in 1959 and, by 1962, were signed to Vanguard Records.
