Mingma Norbu Sherpa was born October 31, 1955, in Khunde village in the Sherpa homeland of Khumbu within what is now Sagarmatha (Chomolungma/Mt. Everest) National Park. Because he spoke several local languages and English, he was working as a translator for visiting trekkers and conservationists in his teens.

I was aided by the Sherpa brothers who made the route. Most important of all, my brother Mingma G supported me every step on the way to the summit and even more importantly every step on the way back to camp 4. I was alone on the mountain after Hilary step but I didn't feel alone as Mingma bhai was communicating with me via radio.
