Wendy Craig. Anne Gwendolyn Craig (born 20 June 1934), [1] known professionally as Wendy Craig, is an English actress. She is best known for her roles in the sitcoms Not in Front of the Children, ...And Mother Makes Three / ...And Mother Makes Five and Butterflies. She played the role of Matron in the TV series The Royal (2003–2011).
Wendy Craig was born in Sacriston, Durham County, England on June 20, 1934. Her given name is Anne Gwendolyn Craig. Her father George Craig was a farmer and her mother was Anne Lindsay. Craig made her first appearance onstage at three years of age. By seven, she knew she wanted to be an actress after being mesmerized by a pantomime show.
