Maurice White masterfully played the African thumb piano or kalimba in the track ‘Uhuru’ on the Trio’s ‘Another Voyage’ album in 1969. In 1969, he founded his own band, the “Salty Peppers,” in Chicago with his pals Wade Flemons and Don Whitehead, and dedicated himself to its success. Verdine, his brother, also joined the band.
ANOTHER VOYAGE again benefits from the contributions of Charles Stepney,. Although this record is free of his orchestral arrangements, he's credited with writing the best song on the album, "Opus V". Other highlights include both parts of "If You've Got It, Flaunt It", "Do What You Wanna", "Bold And Black" and the funky "Uhuru" featuring Maurice White on kalimba.
