The problem with Electric Ladyland (1968) is that he went too far with experiments. Many of them completely nonsense. If the album had been released as a simple album, not double, it would have been his masterwork, his best album. But, the way it is, as a double album it becomes boring around the middle.
Sometimes Hendrix would play bass himself but he also welcomed guests such as drummer Buddy Miles of The Electric Flag, Traffic’s Dave Mason, Chris Wood and Steve Winwood, former Dylan organist Al Kooper and Jefferson Airplane bassist Jack Casady amongst others into the mix. ‘Electric Ladyland’ was the last album with The Experience.

Kramer chose digital rather than analog to achieve greater control throughout the process. Unlike many digital transfers from analog this process lends itself well to the nature of Hendrix's tracks, with the knobs twiddled by a man who was there at the birth. The LP (MCA2-11600) could be a bit hard to come by.
