Sigley hosted the prime time Adelaide variety show, Adelaide Tonight on NWS-9. Sigley was the host of the national Nine Network variety show, The Ernie Sigley Show. He was the original host of the Australian version of the popular game show, Wheel of Fortune, from 1981 to 1984. In October 2016, Sigley was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease.

His career began when still a teenager, working as a turntable operator and announcer at 3DB in the 1950s. In what must surely have been a TV first, The Ernie Sigley Show broadcast live from Pentridge Prison in 1975. It was an episode of The Mick Molloy Show where Tony Martin presented clips from the variety special.. The cast of Prisoner later filmed a concert special inside Pentridge in 1981.
