In support of Based on Happy Times, Keene put together a new rhythm section, John Richardson on drums and Brad Quinn on bass, and hit the road for a month-long tour with the Replacements. The tour found the Keene group playing for receptive audiences and would eventually lead to Tommy joining Replacements leader Paul Westerberg as a sideman on Westerberg’s 1996 solo tour.

12 de feb. de 2007 · Based on Happy Times is perhaps Keene's hardest disc to come across, which is such a shame because it's absolutely loaded with fantastic pop songs that run the gamut from sad semi-ballads such as "If We Run Away," cowritten with Jules Shear, upbeat punchy tunes like "Nothing Can Change You" (covered by the Goo Goo Dolls), and even a silly rendition of the Beach Boys' "Our Car Club."

Using Keene's name, they released Strange Alliance on their own Avenue label in 1982, before being picked up by North Carolina label Dolphin. Keene recorded two EPs there before signing to Geffen, which released two albums, Songs from the Film and Based on Happy Times, as well as Run Now, a six-song EP of previously recorded material, before dropping Keene from its roster.
