Morris High School was the first high school in the Bronx, built in 1897. In the 1940s and 1950s it was one of the most racially integrated high schools in the city. Colin Powell graduated from Morris in 1954. In the 1990s, the school fell into decline and the Department of Education decided to close it and replace it with small schools.
