'HEAL' is a bold new beginning, with a thrilling full-tilt sound that draws on Showalter’s love of ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s rock and pop, with the singer and guitarist playing the intense valedictory confessor.

Strand Of Oaks‘ loudest and most emotionally direct album yet, HEAL, is akin to primal scream therapy, and in that context, the capitalisation of its title is entirely appropriate. Long gone is the quiet folk and in its place is, primarily, raucous, loud, and emotional rock.

Less generously, Strand of Oaks is pure dad rock. But dad rock endures for a reason, and there’s plenty to enjoy on Tim Showalter’s best-regarded album to date.
