Apollo Smile started as a recording artist, releasing her self-titled debut-album in 1991 and getting her track "Thunderbox" on the soundtrack for the 1990 Tom Cruise film Days of Thunder.

Paula Anne DeMonico, better known by her stage name Apollo Smile, is an American pop music singer-songwriter, voice actress and media personality. In the 1990s, Smile billed herself as the "Live Action Anime Girl" and was invited to several science fiction conventions as a guest. She is best known for her portrayal as reporter Ulala from the Space Channel 5 series.
Before Apollo Smile became a minor, very minor, celebrity as the "World's First Live Action Anime Hero," she was a humble live action recording artist. She began her career hanging around with the Pooh Sticks and their creator Steve Gregory of Fierce records fame, and the same winking, self-referential approach to pop music that served them so well also serves Apollo Smile well here.
