Creció en una atmósfera llena de Blues en el famoso Maxwell Street Market, durante la época de oro del Chicago Blues. Comenzó a actuar profesionalmente a finales de los 60, recorriendo el Medio Oeste con la banda de Johnny Young, (guitarra/mandolina).

  5. Two years later, he and Earl had a falling out, causing Jerry to leave the group. Portnoy formed his own band, the Streamliners in 1989. Two years later, the band released their debut, Poison Kisses, on Modern Blues Recordings. Between 1991 and 1993, Portnoy was part of Eric Clapton's All-Star Blues Band.

  6. 1991 / 1995. Fils d'un commerçant de Maxwell Street à Chicago, Jerry est très tôt immergé dans le Blues. Vers 1969, il intègre le groupe de Johnny Young qu'il accompagne deux ans et demi. Puis il joue derrière John Littlejohn et Sam Lay. Jerry devient ensuite l'harmoniciste de Muddy Waters entre mai 1974 et juin 1980.
