The MELA Foundation, an interdisciplinary arts institution she co-founded with her long-time partner La Monte Young, confirmed her death.

La Monte Young moved to New York City in 1960, where he became a primary influence on Minimalism, the Fluxus movement and performance art. With collaborator, artist Marian Zazeela, they released their first full-length album (aka "The Black Record") in 1969 on the Edition X label and their second album (Dream House 78'17") in 1974 on Shandar.
