After McCartney had been crucified in the music papers, Paul and Linda went to New York City in January 1971 to audition a new band. The trials took place in a squalid loft on 45th Street.
The release Wings at the Speed of Sound was a number one album in the United States. “Let ‘Em In,” and “Silly Love Songs” were massive hits, with the latter showcasing Linda’s vocals. Wings toured the United States on the Wings over America Tour, the first time Paul McCartney had played live in the U.S. since the last Beatles concert there, in 1966.
