  2. The First Day is the first of three collaborations between British musicians David Sylvian and Robert Fripp.It was released in August 1993, featuring a driving rock style with elements of funk. After scattered collaborations from the late 1980s, Fripp asked Sylvian to join a new version of his band King Crimson, but Sylvian proposed a collaborative album.

John Paul Jones's second solo album for DGM, following the all-instrumental Zooma, was an even more eclectic affair and was the first to feature JPJ's lyric and vocal contributions. Moving from the abrasive to the ethereal, the album also included performances by Robert Fripp and Chapman Stick virtuoso, Nick Beggs.

He and wife Toyah Wilcox have continued to delight and confound with their Sunday Lunch streams; a surreal, unprecedented dive into the daft for a man with a reputation as serious, impenetrable.

His label boss, Robert Fripp , adds his unmistakable anguished guitar to the opening "Leafy Meadows," but mostly Jones steers the album by playing guitars, basses, mandolins, autoharp, koto, ukulele, and keyboards.
