2 de jul. de 2016 · While Miles had a distaste for free-jazz, obviously his band didn't, and Quintet's music clearly was informed by it. The resultant music was slippery, dynamic and it had an open-ended approach to harmony bolstered by elastic ways with rhythms. On the other hand, at concerts, the repertoire still consisted of old classics and standards.

This 20-bit compact disc release is a reissue of the original LP edition, also on Columbia (CS 9401). Originally released in 1967. Recorded at Columbia 30th Street Studio, New York City, on October 24 (tracks 1,2,4,5) and October 25 (tracks 3,6), 1966. Remixed from the original 4-track tapes and mastered at Sony Music Studios, NYC.

The drumming is manic and constantly knocking out of time sig, and the bassline is non stop be bop rhythms. Over this framework sax and trumpets blaze with illuminated genius. Davis is a pioneer and has a plethora of albums to sink into. Some are better than other and "Miles Smiles" is full blown jazzing improvisation.
