10 de may. de 2024 · Mark Knopfler (born August 12, 1949, Glasgow, Scotland) is a Scottish guitarist and singer-songwriter, widely known as the front man of the British rock group Dire Straits and later as a successful writer of film soundtracks and as a solo artist. Knopfler is exceptionally skilled on the guitar, celebrated in particular for his trademark fingerstyle technique and distinctive sound.
Biography 1949–1976: Early life. Mark Freuder Knopfler was born on 12 August 1949 in Glasgow, Scotland, to an English mother, Louisa Mary (née Laidler), and a Hungarian Jewish father, Erwin Knopfler. His mother was a teacher and his father was an architect and a chess player who left his native Hungary in 1939 to flee the Nazis. Knopfler later described his father as a Marxist agnostic.
