Clare College is a constituent college of the University of Cambridge [4] in Cambridge, England. The college was founded in 1326 as University Hall, making it the second-oldest surviving college of the University after Peterhouse. It was refounded in 1338 as Clare Hall by an endowment from Elizabeth de Clare, and took on its current name in 1856.
Home. In 1326, Clare was the first Oxford or Cambridge foundation to bring together a Master, Fellows, and Scholars in a single community. Today we are a diverse College community brought together by a common interest in learning, teaching, and research with around 100 Fellows, 300 postgraduate students, and 500 undergraduate students.

Come to an open day. Founded in 1326, Clare is the second oldest College in Cambridge, home to a thriving community of students and teaching Fellows from all over the world. Clare was founded on inclusivity, and was amongst the first Cambridge Colleges to become co-educational in 1972.
Due to the ongoing building works, the College is currently closed to members of the public. However, we welcome visits from prospective applicants and alumni. If you are visiting, please stop by the Porters' Lodge in Old Court or Memorial Court and let the Porter know that you are here.
